Hungry Valley SVRA
Beginner to ExpertHungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area is one of California's premier OHV parks, located about 15-20 minutes from Pinion Pines Estates. With 19,000 acres of diverse terrain, the park offers trails for every skill level — from gentle fire roads and open desert washes for beginners to steep hill climbs and technical rock sections for experts. Day use and camping are available year-round.
Vehicle: Varies by trail. Beginner trails accessible with stock 4WD. Expert trails require purpose-built rigs.
Los Padres National Forest Roads
Easy to ModerateForest service roads in the Los Padres National Forest are accessible from the Frazier Mountain area near Pinion Pines Estates. These routes wind through pine forests, along mountain ridges, and through open meadows, offering a more scenic and relaxed off-road experience compared to technical OHV trails.
Vehicle: 4WD or high-clearance AWD recommended for most forest roads. Conditions vary by season.
Lockwood/Miller Trail System Connection
Black Diamond (Most Difficult)Pinion Pines Estates residents can access the legendary Lockwood/Miller OHV trail system via Lockwood Valley Road. This 33.2-mile point-to-point route is one of the most celebrated off-road trails in Southern California, running through the Los Padres National Forest with creek crossings, mountain switchbacks, and the extreme Miller Jeep Trail climb up Alamo Mountain.
Vehicle: Minimum 4WD, high clearance, aggressive off-road tires. Recommended: 35"+ tires, rear locker.
Mountain-to-Desert Transition Terrain

Air Down Tires
Reduce tire pressure to 18-22 PSI for rocky or sandy terrain. Carry a portable compressor for airing back up on pavement.
Bring Water & Supplies
No services on trails. Carry plenty of water (especially in desert terrain), food, sunscreen, and a full tank of fuel.
Recovery Gear
Carry tow straps, a shovel, and a quality jack. Travel with a buddy on remote or technical trails.
